  1. In Auckland, just called my mom in Anchorage, where it's 6pm yesterday, using Skype on the iPhone for the first time. Worked like a charm.
  2. Currently trying to squeeze the most goodness out of the Qantas Lounge in the Auckland airport as we wait to return home. Beer, cheese, wifi
  3. @Shopping_Bag I would totally be there if it were at the Fireweed, where I first saw it. And if I weren't in New Zealand. Have fun.
  4. @splendid24 Indeed - and sure she'll get a kick out of that. I'll tell her next time we see her.
  5. Just returned from a day wandering Arrowtown (home of gold miners and the Ford of Bruinen, apparently), plus a tasting in a wine cave.
  6. Sad to hear from @cinefamily about Bob Mitchell's passing. So glad to have seen him work. Will watch "40 Boys and a Song" upon return.
  7. Best part about paragliding: my pilot carried a camera w/extension pole + battery-powered CD burner, and gave me photos mins. after landing.
  8. When in Queenstown, one feels the need to jump off a hill with a parasail attached. Or at least I did, and enjoyed it very much.
  9. Back in the (right-hand) driver's seat after 5 days of rail, ferry, and feet. On the West Coast now, heading south to the glaciers tomorrow.
  10. I'm not sure how we'll go from a five-course meal with wine pairings to a youth hostel, but we're about to find out. Man, was that a meal.
  11. So weird to be hearing Kiwi newscasters talking about Palin on the radio in the car as we drove around the plains of Canterbury today.
  12. @Shopping_Bag Wow - that is some high-quality holdover mail, a real step above the usual Mrs. Fields and Brookstone catalogs.
  13. Lovely Wellington. Seems we might have finally adjusted to the time. Tasty po boy for dinner, followed by a walk, a scotch, and Scrabble.
  14. Arrived in Wellington after a drive through the clouds and Upper & Lower Hutt. I am very familiar with the look and feel and sound of rain.
  15. New Zealand is lovely but uniformly rainy today. Went caving with thousands of glowworms and are about to see a haka performance in Rotorua.
  16. So far, NZ seems like Iceland + Hawaii.
  17. Coffee & guidebooks in a cafe in Auckland. Flight down was great; included unplanned layover in Fiji due to Auckland fog. Happy to be here.
  18. Favorite Qantas-ism so far: on the 'Dine-later' menu: "I would like to nominate a time to dine, approximately ___ hours after take-off."
  19. Massage seats, noise-cancelling headphones, champagne, and lots of movies to choose from. Not sure how much #infsum I'll be getting to.
  20. @splendid24 @hchowell Thanks - we'll post pix at some point; I know at least we'll have some free wifi at the bookshop/b&b in Wellington...
