  1. WCT: Find out why. Ask (politely) for proof. Be convinced before changing things. And if it's only preference, that's your client's right.
  2. WCT: Social media.... Hm. As opposed to? Anti-social media? Without the social, can there be any media (outside the lab)? Smile.
  3. WCT: Use the season to do/say nice things you wouldn't otherwise do/say. If it's the best you can do, it's better than never at all. RIght?
  4. WCT: Never merely imply what you can scream in letters two feet high on the side of a bus in rush hour traffic. (What's your slogan today?)
  5. WCT: In business, creative is in decline and pragmatism on the rise. But in our spiritual lives, the phenomenon is reversed. Stay aboard.
  6. WCT: No better time to make new choices than right now. You'll get another reminder in a few years, but why waste the chance to start now?
  7. WCT: Decide whether you believe in it. Yes? Be passionate. Not so much? Be professional. Either way, respect yourself.
  8. WCT: Check in often to minimize effort wasted, but be alert to a client's natural desire to expand the scope. (Be open, but not that open.)
  9. WCT: If the word you really want to use comprises in more than three syllables, don't use it. Your readers are smart, but better safe....
  10. WCT: Get crackin'. There's no excuse. You're in charge and there's just no excuse.
  11. WCT: Discover the secret your client is not telling you. It is either the real competitive advantage or it is a real problem.
  12. WCT: If a thing is just too simple, the things it enables may not be. Describe the wonderful things that are now suddenly possible.
  13. WCT: If a thing can't be explained in a single tidy paragraph, it may be more than one thing. Try taking it apart, one paragraph at a time.
  14. WCT: There is nothing more precisely effective than metaphor. Like an icepick in the office wall. A bird's song at daybreak. Slow water.
  15. WCT: NEVER let a brainstorming session go longer than one hour even if no brains emerge. Tell them it was great and just get started.
  16. WCT: A thing of value will find a market... if your client can wait forever and has no competition. Remind your client of this, gently.
  17. WCT: Social media means brevity and leaves room to listen. Makes me ruthless and clear. (See also PR posts at brettmcateer.wordpress.com)
  18. WCT: You really do know more than your client in that you know the audience knows less than your client. You are not preaching to the choir.
  19. WCT: Pace matters, anecdote illustrates, and plot is required. Pace the anecdote through the plot to the conclusion. I can explain.
  20. WCT: Changed my mind. DO read it out loud on the bus. I.e., invite criticism from strangers with no investment. Trust every second one.
