  1. Wash your clothes in cold water using cold-water detergents whenever possible.
  2. Reduce drag by placing items inside the car or trunk rather than on roof racks. A loaded roof rack can decrease your fuel economy by 5%.
  3. Drive sensibly. Aggressive driving (rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gasoline, it can lower your highway gas mileage 33%.
  4. Activate "sleep" features on computers so that they power down when not in use. Turn off computers over night.
  5. Only use air conditioning to achieve neutral temperatures. Lower temperatures use significantly more energy.

  10. 15% of an average homes energy goes to heating water. Lower the temperature on your water heater so you don’t add cold water to shower.
  11. Check your furnace or air conditioner filter each month. Dirty filters increase energy use.
