  1. Discussing strategies for importing scanned manuscript pages from ContentDM. It ain't pretty.
  2. Spotted in an email signature: "Please don't print this e-mail unless really needed." Wonder who she usually corresponds with?
  3. @magpie Upon reflection, I really want Bridgeman v. Corel to apply to scanned MSS. That doesn't mean it does.
  4. @magpie Though to be frank, nobody really knows. The law is really not settled yet, according to the article.
  5. @magpie The original case was art, but isn't a careful page scan a "slavish copy"? It's not like the repository is making a mashup.
  6. @magpie For MSS with expired copyright, I'd imagine that Bridgeman v. Corel would apply: http://tinyurl.com/3yhwje Please correct me if not.
  7. @magpie I don't think so, not in the US. For MSS under copyright, the image is no different than a photocopy -- it's a reproduction.
  8. @CoreyPud And all I can think of is John Bell Hood, aggressive, but none-too-bright Confederate general.
  9. sending email to Austin-#thatcamp co-organizers.
  10. Reading "10 Steps to Organizing a BarCamp" http://www.cleverclevergirl... #thatcamp
  11. @nirak Come on down to Austin in August for the #saa09 #thatcamp and you'll really appreciate your cold basement.
  12. @sramsay Ha! In my first job interview, I wore cut-offs and a Linux t-shirt. The tech mgr told the CEO "We got a geek!" Got the job, too.
  13. @CoreyPud First your account is banned, now you say it's too hot! Whine, whine, whine...
  14. @veek Are specs a reference to refer to? Sometimes they're artifacts of a conv7n, and the evolving underst2d2g among participants is better.
  15. @dancohen Well, until you have to maintain it, that is. But specs written by folks who really understand the problem are not valueless.
  16. @dancohen Strongly disagree. Software written by a mediocre dev trying to solve their own prob > that by good dev scratching others' itch.
  17. @sramsay Feh. I am advocating agile, so long as you're flexible and have flexible requirements. It's not for working to a contract/grant.
  18. @nirak The Mythical Man Month is likely at your public library. In a way, it's an appeal for aglie development, if not "Agile". #thatcamp
  19. @nirak I often create elaborate design docs and throw them away. Useful for planning and initial architecture. But not nimble. #thatcamp
  20. @nirak I'm in favor of writing specs and design docs, less so of following them. They force you to be thorough, whcih is good. #thatcamp
