It looks like I may have fixed my iPod by sticking it in the freezer for a few hours.

@ I would say it is a similar pop break-through to the one shown by DP on Bitte Orca.

@ I would say that it's way more tuneful. I never really fully got behind Animal Collective until MPP. Pop hooks are no longer hidden.

@ Have you not heard Merriweather Post Pavilion? Or more specifically, the tracks "My Girls," "Bluish" and "Brothersport."

The Flaming Lips - Embryonic: 73. Bold title for a 26 year-old band but this is a baffling oddity from a group that seemed out of surprises.

The xx - xx: 71. Sexy, nocturnal pop that recalls Tindersticks or Junior Boys. An impressive debut that could use some expanded dynamics.

Metacritic synopsis of DARE: "Three seniors explore their sexuality in a bi-curious triangle that doesn't add up." Geriatric Porn FTW.

Mount Eerie - Wind's Poem: 67. A return to the Loud-Quiet-Loud lo-fi sound of The Microphones, but more concerned with mood than harmony.

Trash Humpers tonight, Atlas Sound tomorrow and then Pixies the next day. Maybe on Friday I'll get Bob Dylan to play at my apartment.

Nadler set was typically strong. I especially enjoyed her cover of Springsteen's "I'm On Fire."

Marissa Nadler opens for Alela Diane tonight @ The Echo. Nadler's one of the best songwriters working today and LITTLE HELLS is career high.

Favorite ANTICHRIST credit that I somehow missed the first time: "Misogyny Research"

The Happy Hollows - Spells: 75. After a series of terrific EPs, HH finally self-release an LP of expertly paced, Pixies-influenced rock.

Atlas Sound - Logos: 82. "Shelia" and "Walkabout" are 2 of the finest musical moments of 09 and the rest of the album doesn't let them down.

@ I don't really get No Age. I always feel like I should be listening to them on larger speakers from further away. Lo-fi as cop-out.

Jay also gave me some rather odd dating advice out in the alley in front of The Smell and laid out a personal history that seemed fabricated

Finally made it to The Smell in Downtown last night for a brief set of mostly new songs from Jeremy Jay. New album(s) due in March.

@ Best Los Angeles band = The Happy Hollows. I would love to hear a daytrotter session with them.

Cool to see that @ has the Monday residency in November at Spaceland. Definitely the best unsigned Los Angeles band. A must see.
