  1. Finally published another post in my quest to define what makes a HOF reliever. Here, I compare the guys already in. http://bit.ly/91kRW2
  2. That said... Jack Morris career WAR: 39.3. Rich Gossage's career WAR: 40.0.
  3. Dennis Eckersley's WAR: 1975-1986 (as SP) = 42.1. 1987-1998 (as RP) = 16.6. Hard for any reliever to be worth as much as an SP.
  4. Folks say Dennis Eckersley is in the Hall of Fame "as a reliever", but the reality is less than 30% of his career value came as a reliever.
  5. Considering a blog post about the worst fielders in the Hall of Fame and asking if they'd get a vote if they were a DH. #edgar
  6. @Erik_Manning That's too bad. Would love to see him bounce back with the Cards. Boras ruins everything.
  7. RT @adarowski: My daughter and Theo have a lot in common. Theo signed Boof Bonser this morning. My daughter did a boof bonser in her dia ...
  8. Mike Lowell WAR in 2009: 1.2 (down from 3.2 in '08 and 5.3 in '07). Adrian Beltre WAR in 2009: 2.4 (down from 4.1 in '08 and 3.0 in '07).
  9. Top 2009 Red Sox Pitchers by Wins Above Replacement (WAR): Lester (6.2), Beckett (5.3), Penny (2.0 for Sox, 2.5 total), Paps & Wake (1.9).
  10. Top 2009 Red Sox Hitters by Wins Above Replacement (WAR): Youk (5.6), Pedroia (5.2), Drew (4.7), Bay (3.5), Victor (2.1 for Sox, 4.9 total).
  11. @Erik_Manning Hey, congrats! Always great to see one of yours go in.
  12. Congratulations to Whitey Herzog and Doug Harvey on election to The Hall via the Veterans Committee!
  13. @newswilson Besides Ichiro. :)
  14. "Edgar had eight seasons of 150 OPS+, which is as many as Roberto Clemente, Ernie Banks, Jim Rice and Paul Molitor combined." - Jim Caple
  15. @MarinersManiac Already posted a few days ago. Love it. :) Glad to have another ally in the cause!
  16. Jerry Crasnick on Marvin Miller and the Hall of Fame. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=4700428
  17. Did I say Pat Hentgen was better than I thought? I really meant Kevin Appier (though Hentgen was too).
  18. Finished my post with sortable WAR (and its components) for the upcoming Hall of Fame ballot. Sort away! http://bit.ly/5JNYaP
  19. Lee Smith is growing on me. He's certainly a better HOF case than Bruce Sutter and Rollie Fingers.
  20. You know? Pat Hentgen was a lot better than I thought. Ray Lankford, too.
