  4. a heavy downpour, dramatic lightening and thunder immediately overhead, water sliding down the glass roof, the garden path a flowing stream
  5. coffee and an iced bun, a sky of brilliant blue and breeze through the trees
  6. a smartly painted horse-drawn cart is making appearances in the street. The driver uses a mobile phone. Bluesy music from a passing car.
  7. hard-boiled eggs, asparagus spears arranged like flowers in a brown pot, rough pats of butter on white and gold plate of 'Whitehall' design.
  8. going, with discretion, to explore retail outlets
  9. after the rain a red sky promises fine weather tomorrow
  10. applying paint from a wide flat sable brush, occasionally turning it over
  11. watching Quantum of Solace
  12. short-changed, the weather too cold for June
  13. a deep red cultivated rose after many years in the garden has grown wild and pale and the prettier for it
  14. beautiful out. All blue skies, people spilling out onto the streets. Decibels of motorbikes on the main road matched only by police sirens.
