@ I think I diverge from Lind at the beginning of the piece, where she says curatorial is "An endeavor that encourages you to..."

@ Sometimes the works aren't even as clever at the hotdog/bun analogy. Like "Ever wonder why suburbs are so awful?"

But the art versions are more "serious", less funny, and presented visually. Often with a political critique. Rather thin conceptually.

Sort of along the lines of "Did you ever wonder why there aren't the same number of hot dogs as hot dog buns?"

I think there's a strain of contemporary art that's like a visual version of a lame Jerry Seinfeld routine. Won't mention names.

Have twice read the article "On the Curatorial" by Bard's CCS Maria Lind, in Oct. 2009 Artforum. Sorry I can't find a link to it online.

A NYTimes article says "Before the [exh] opening in June 2009, almost nobody in the art world had heard of Mr. Tufte."

Love Edward Tufte's writings (e.g. "Visual Display of Quantitative Information.") Didn't know he was an artist too.

@ I'm going to probably do a bit less online reading and a bit more print, that's the goal. I'm not going to be pious about it tho!

@ Well the artworld still publishes mags. Our office gets a few and I subscribe to a few. And just general ones, like NYer, VF, etc.

The exh features contemporary art about neuroses. Can't imagine why it appeals to me so much.
