  1. @jaymjordan "...start from the artwork but not stay there, to think with it but also away from and against it?" I like to stick w/the art.
  2. @jaymjordan I think I diverge from Lind at the beginning of the piece, where she says curatorial is "An endeavor that encourages you to..."
  3. @kueblerwolf Sometimes the works aren't even as clever at the hotdog/bun analogy. Like "Ever wonder why suburbs are so awful?"
  4. @salvocheque thanks for that link to the Lind/Artforum article.
  5. But the art versions are more "serious", less funny, and presented visually. Often with a political critique. Rather thin conceptually.
  6. Sort of along the lines of "Did you ever wonder why there aren't the same number of hot dogs as hot dog buns?"
  7. I think there's a strain of contemporary art that's like a visual version of a lame Jerry Seinfeld routine. Won't mention names.
  8. But I still don't understand what Lind means by the concept of "the curatorial." Help?
  9. Have twice read the article "On the Curatorial" by Bard's CCS Maria Lind, in Oct. 2009 Artforum. Sorry I can't find a link to it online.
  10. But I think many folks in the artworld per se have heard of Tufte, just not his own art.
  11. A NYTimes article says "Before the [exh] opening in June 2009, almost nobody in the art world had heard of Mr. Tufte." http://bit.ly/8Jlmp1
  12. Tufte has a show now @Aldrich, but I'm not sure about his large sculptures. http://bit.ly/2HEw42
  13. Love Edward Tufte's writings (e.g. "Visual Display of Quantitative Information.") Didn't know he was an artist too. http://bit.ly/XmePZ
  14. @acmorton I'm going to probably do a bit less online reading and a bit more print, that's the goal. I'm not going to be pious about it tho!
  15. @acmorton Well the artworld still publishes mags. Our office gets a few and I subscribe to a few. And just general ones, like NYer, VF, etc.
  16. as part of new years resolution, am reading more art mags. Trying to catch up w/issues of @ArtLies, a great TX mag. http://bit.ly/7uMhDd
  17. Brian Dettmer carves out images and text from books. Very cool. Via @Flavorpill. http://bit.ly/6jZ5lP
  18. @cjn212 bummer -- we're the last venue on the tour. Thanks for the RT.
  19. The exh features contemporary art about neuroses. Can't imagine why it appeals to me so much.
  20. Am re-reading catalog for our next exhibition "Slightly Unbalanced" which is from iCI. Opens later this month. http://bit.ly/5bAkM5
