  1. Am wondering how Tescos value beef and pork sandwich paste can have chicken as its main ingredient.
  2. Still marking essays - 14 down, 4 to go - on Friday night. Looking forward to a cold beer and some Ikea meatballs.
  3. Wellcome Trust launch a prize for fiction or non-fiction about health. A rich field of study, meriting its own awards: http://bit.ly/7mlrz
  4. My brain aches from being stretched in all directions!
  5. Gave literary theory tutorial at 9 this am, prepared a tutorial on Ibsen this pm, and now about to give two OU tutorials on Frankenstein.
  6. Or more, of course, once I've been diverted into irrelevant web browsing, and tweeting!
  7. I am trying to mark essays, but the emails keep arriving, and as studies show, it takes me at least 45 seconds to get back into the flow.
  8. "it is the arrogant scientific establishment which questions free expression." Bad science article in Daily Mail. See: http://bit.ly/1Qj5rs
  9. Just preparing a tutorial on "Modernist Manifestos." Loving it - Marinetti, Pound et al., and some great paintings, poems, and magazines.
  10. Excellent post on the inhumanity of Daily Mail online comments, and the irony of the advertisers supporting such pages: http://bit.ly/1wELwK
  11. It's 8.30 in the morning. Time for a bit of literary theory. Perhaps some New Criticism to get me started...before teaching this lunchtime.
  12. Crack out the bunting and the incense. The Pope could be coming to Durham. But will he be in a bullet proof golf buggy? http://bit.ly/sK9Tz
  13. Currently looking over old teaching material. It's so much less fun - if also less time-consuming - than dreaming up a tutorial from scratch
  14. @DurhamCityzen Profile pic quite appropriate-inc. CCTV camera in background. Probably better than updating to show decapitated Londonderry!
  15. RT: @JSTOR: The revered and incredibly popular British Medical Journal just released with issues dating back to 1840. http://bit.ly/4hNXbW.
  16. Read Revolutions of the Word by Patricia Waugh - http://bit.ly/2Q1Em2
  17. Now following @DurhamCityzen. Ironically, the profile picture for City of Durham is of Londonderry horse that's being controversially moved.
  18. Enjoying exploring the digital version of Blast, the vorticist magazine. They don't publish like this any more http://bit.ly/2HBXaa
  19. And now for Hardy, about the Titanic, from "The Convergence of the Twain": "Steel chambers, late the pyres/Of her salamandrine fires." Wow!
  20. A spooky, but literary, poem for Halloween: Hardy's "Logs on the Hearth." Far more disturbing than pumpkins and masks. http://bit.ly/4qEvhf
