  2. NPS has done nothing re Denali (Kantishna)wolf killing -still leaving whether to shoot any up to the hunters. Go to last 2 links for details
  3. Two key points need further emphasis concerning the outrageous wolf-hunting situation in Denali NP http://tinyurl.com/oqdkyf. Please help.
  4. A major Denali wolf study group is in danger from a hunt that will begin in the park Sept 1. Urgently need help: http://tinyurl.com/lgzaw2
  5. Found Toklat at a site 4-5 mi (7.2km) from natal den. Most if not all 11 older wolves still together provisioning the fast-growing pups.
  6. Finally able to fly on Aug 11 to check Toklat and other Denali wolf study groups at new homesites, but now more bad flying weather again.
  7. Toklat attending pups at new homesite, probably several miles from natal den. Waiting for some decent flying conditions to confirm location
  8. One brief flight since last tweet, on 8/2, due to smoke from wildfires, wind, other bad weather. Able to check on only a few study groups.
  9. Hoping to determine new homesite locations for Toklat and other groups by aerial tracking them on 7/31, if 2 wks of high winds subside.
  10. Toklat wolves and some other Denali study groups recently moved from natal dens to other homesites, as is often the case after late July.

  12. Vegetation at peak lushness now. Luv the rich greens, many new flowers, and great aromas along the trail, forest and subalpine segments.
  13. Grizz bear going same way on forest trail during my hike to den. Lukewarm droppings indicated he was a good half hour or more ahead of me.
  14. Back to den today to check on Toklat wolves again-still there, tho laying pretty low in brush due to hot weather and sun. Fur coats at 75F!!
  15. Confirmed 9 Toklat pups on yesterday's research flight. Dom adults hunting 4mi (6km) away; 2 young adults with pups at pond area of den.
  16. Checked 14 Denali wolf study groups on research flight yesterday-poor vis in W+N areas of park/preserve due to smoke from 2 lightning fires
  17. Raw, wild beauty at the den tonite with the wolves howling a great chorus for me as rolling thunder from a passing storm shakes the valley.
  18. Add fireweed and skunk cabbage among other new blossoms along hike to den. Still plenty lupine in forest, cinquefoil+roses in subalpine.
  19. Another den visit with Toklat family. Bunch of adults+excited, yipping pups howled a great rollicking 4-min chorus for me from pond area.
  20. Checked Toklat wolves again. Still at forested ponds of den area, where cannot see from ground. Will have to do aerial obs (in small plane).
