  1. I'm skeptical about President Obama's Afghanistan surge. Troops have been there since 2002 and there's no end in sight to the intervention.
  2. Thumbs up on Ace Atkins' Devil's Garden, a gritty and well-written novel about one of Dashiell Hammett's most intriguing detective cases.
  3. 44-year-old Pennsylvania UFO mystery still intrigues. See http://www.pittsburghlive.c...
  4. One of the great things about being an American-Canadian dual citizen is you get to celebrate two Thanksgivings. No. 2 is next week!
  5. Some other quick movie verdicts: Paranormal Activity - thumbs down. Where the Wild Things Are - thumbs up. Zombieland - thumbs up.
  6. For more on Pres. Barack Obama's wise move to combat anti-Semitism, see http://blogs.jta.org/politi...
  7. Sarah Palin says Newsweek's revealing cover shot of her is "sexist." She should be more concerned with the attacks on her in the issue.
  8. Here's a great story about Kevin Roberts, a Vietnam veteran making a difference: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/...
  9. Thumbs down on The Men Who Stare at Goats, a mediocre "comedy" undermined by a wretched screenplay. Not even George Clooney could save it.
  10. I've become a huge GHOST HUNTERS fan. I can't get enough of this show. Dave Tango is the coolest one on the show...
  11. Senator Edward Kennedy was a flawed man, but I think the word "great" is still applicable in this case.
  12. For the Calley apology, see: http://bit.ly/OTsmF
  13. William Calley's apology for the My Lai massacre was moving and heartfelt. Forty years later, there is still hope for healing...
  14. Is there hope for a John Edwards comeback? Not likely. See: http://bit.ly/18Wgdq
  15. John Hughes died much, much to young. He was only 59. I was waiting and waiting for a comeback film. I guess we aren't going to get it.
  16. Stay away from Orphan, a crappy and uncreative horror film. So far, Star Trek remains the best film of the summer, IMHO.
  17. Too bad some ignorant opponents of Obama's healthcare plans are attacking Canada's healthcare system without knowing anything about it.
  18. The Declaration of Independence was actually signed on this day -- August 2, 1776. It was a great moment in history.
  19. I'm going back and watching all the seasons of Route 66, starring Martin Milner & George Maharis. I forgot what a GREAT show it is...
  20. Currently reading Richard Rayner's "A Bright and Guilty Place" about crime in Los Angeles in the 1920s and 1930s. It's a gripping book.
