  1. Ice is starting to skim over Round Lake on this beautiful sunny morning. We watched the otters play and fish while we drank coffee.
  2. I wonder exactly how long it takes for my head to get ready for winter. Not today. Maybe tomorrow.

  4. Denali barked at the tall grass on the road. I peeked: she was nose to nose with her friend the skunk. Just like Bambi and Flower Eeek.
  5. Shelby and I,driving home in the dark, came upon a bear sitting, middle of the road, two little shining eyes. Whew, that was a close one
  6. Oh look---the sun came out and it is fall again. Lucky thing, I like fall.
  7. Our last solo camper came out of the woods today--couldn't paddle through Snipe as planned because the bays were frozen.
  8. More like 45 today...but sunny...

  11. Justin, our cook, made the first blueberry pie of the season. I wish a Justin on everyone in this world. However, we're keeping ours.
  12. Berry report: Raspberries are perfect, blueberries are just starting...some ripe, many more ripening. We've had plenty of rain.
  13. I figure that when you run out of things on your pile (of tasks), you might as well be dead. So today, I'll just be thankful for my pile.
  14. It sure is easy to have a sunny disposition when the sun is shining.
  15. Gunflint Trail Canoe Races: Annual event, picnic, fundraiser for the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department. Windy fun paddling evening.

  17. Steady rain with no lightening....ahhhhh. Really nice.
  18. Guest Jim Colbert spotted the local mother bear+ two cubs on the snowmobile trail munching strawberries. She stood up to get a better look.
  19. Ate my first blueberry today. I can't say it was perfectly ripe...but one semi-ripe blueberry among several million green ones. Soon!
  20. Staffer Andrew was running on the snowmobile trail and witnessed a mother grouse chasing a bear.
