  1. @artsdigitalera And a lottery is not a "tax", it's discretionary spending in the hope of $$$ payout. Pretty far from a tax. IMHO.
  2. @artsdigitalera If you left digital arts funding to the "market" you'd be a subsidy of SONY not Ozco. The market does not=user choice. IMHO.
  3. @commuter_dirge $250million + for a movie of commentaries on the nature of civilisation - or massive light show with space battles?
  4. @commuter_dirge And this! http://www.guardian.co.uk/b...
  5. @commuter_dirge Emmerich will find a contemporary political angle, something no doubt like this: http://www.ansible.co.uk/wr...
  6. @commuter_dirge It'll be Stargate all over again.
  7. @commuter_dirge And Emmerich wouldn't be one to be chained to a "novel" for his script!
  8. @commuter_dirge A giant ship hoving into view w Evererst and sun in b-ground but a mere prelude to Mule armada set against galactic core!
  9. Twitter is not a proper venue for debates. 140 characters more suited to quips, links, haiku.
  10. @artsdigitalera Yes, let's free Govt of the need/desire/duty to fund the arts. Why shouldn't they just let the market decide? #irony
  11. @commuter_dirge The operatics of spatial relationships - sea on land, land in sea, etc terror sublime: 2012 is an 18th century "space opera"
  12. @commuter_dirge Perfect mix of director & material. He's already directing space opera on the grandest scale.
  13. @artsdigitalera Such as?
  14. Roland Emmerich's next film sched'd to be Asimov's 'Foundation'. Holy cow.
  15. Just saw 2012 Well, the world ends, but a lot happens first. Crazy, mad & oddly emotional altho' overwrought. The end of the end one hopes.
  16. @unsungsongs Also "good causes" needn't be restricted to arts: money could go to Indig health etc.
  17. @unsungsongs in UK 50% goes to prize money, 28% to good causes, rest divided btwn govt, operators etc.
  18. @unsungsongs Look into the setup of the UK lottery and the arrangement for it's monies to "good causes" rather than revenue for Govt.
  19. @unsungsongs A national lottery wouldn't preclude state versions anyore than State taxes preclude Fed taxes.
  20. @unsungsongs What do you mean "can't be done"? What legislation prevents it? Couldn't it be changed?
