  4. I'm listening to Ralph Samuels at the RDC luncheon. He'll be announcing his run for the R nomination for Governor at 1:30.

  7. He supports development which is done responsibly because it will provide the area the tax base to implement programs to enhance fisheries.
  8. While Mayor Alsworth serves the tourism industry, he points out that few local residents directly benefit from tourism.
  9. As a point of background, Mayor Alsworth is Aleut. Bristol Bay is famous for producing very talented Alaskans, but they leave the area.
  10. He wants people in Bristol Bay to both be able to live and work in the most beautiful place in AK. His argument is to keep an open mind.
  11. 1800 people work for 4 to 6 weeks in the fishing industry in Bristol Bay, about 1 person for every 200 square miles.
  12. This man actually lives, and raised a family in the wilderness others from outside the area are trying to affect. An interesting mind.
  13. "Bristol bay does not have a resource shortage, we have an idea shortage" Alsworth.
  14. "Saying we can develop one resource without harming another is like admitting we can't develop strategies to prevent damage" Mayor Alsworth
  15. Lake Clark is in the area where the Pebble Mine would be developed.
  16. Mayor Alsworth is a true wilderness bush pilot and lives at Port Alsworth at Lake Clark, one of the most beautiful parts of Alaska.
  17. Am at the RDC breakfast to learn about the Future of Fish and Finances in Bristol Bay from the Lake and Penn Mayor Glen Alsworth.
  18. ANC employs 12.5% of the Anchorage workforce and overall aviation employs about 10% of the Alaska workforce.
  19. The good news is that airport management has been prudent in managing expenses against income through self-imposed budget cuts.
  20. While the economic picture at ANC is not as good as it was in 2006 things are trending up.
