  1. ...on the contrary, the depiction of whites was honest (first time I can say that about a movie in 2009). I'll have to blog about this
  2. Just because it showed a few white people redeeming themselves doesn't mean that it is going back to the "whiteman's burden" complex...
  3. I read the reviews, and *then* I watched Avatar Sunday. I give it a pass. Didn't think it was racist. Loved the movie.
  4. @Juswest388 Though, since kids don't know any better, they need those that do to speak out for them.
  5. @Juswest388 I just don't like that people are acting as Disney made some great achievement with this film, when they are just placating us.
  6. @Juswest388 BTW, I'm not saying kids can't watch this movie in particular, but I'm talking about Disney & media in the general sense
  7. @Juswest388 But why should kids be fed garbage? It affects them too. What I'm saying that a cheap movie isn't a racial triumph.
  8. Black people have become 2 satisfied with tokens in the media, when we need 2 have more lead roles & not the same actors being used over&over
  9. @Juswest388 Why should I have an "I'll take whatever I get" mentality? I'm not a beggar. This was cheap & I'll acknowledge it as such.
  10. Just because Disney threw us a bone doesn't mean we should them off the hook. We should expect more minority *leads* in the future.
  11. @Juswest388 You don't expect kids to understand the affect of the media, do you?
  12. Now that they have a full range of minorities, has Disney filled it's token set? Will we get more Black princesses?
  13. I wonder if Disney's 3rd rate movie where the princess is a frog for the whole movie is supposed to prove they are not racist
  14. When we realize how our thinking is shaped even in the most subtle of ways, change happens.
  15. Watching MalcolmX film I <3 the scene where he looks up "black" & "white" & sees the negative connotations attributed to us compared 2 them
  16. God is good!!!! I finished the term with a 4.0 Thank you Jesus!!!
  17. The Bill Gates family is a collection of angels. I love his comments about the estate tax
  18. Great review about Avatar & White guilt/centered movies http://gawker.com/5422666/when-will-white-people-stop-making-movies-like-avatar
  19. Looks forward to the day when we can see a non-white leader in a movie whose name isn't Will Smith
  20. I have to get my hands on "Hair Story: Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America" while I still have free time.
