  1. @MrTrav @Jeffporn Well, regular, carving pumpkins don't have much flavor, so that could have been your problem.
  2. @Jeffporn We did get a sweet, caramelized flavor out of it when we boiled it. Probably because we had roasted the pumpkin beforehand.
  3. @IronOrr Well actually, that is what we did. We did 1 batch with 1/2 in the mash, 1/2 boiled. Batch 2 was all boiled.
  4. Also found: the ever-useful fake poop. http://twitpic.com/rws4f
  5. Things I'm finding in the stuff we never unpacked: dirty towels, dish soap, cleaning supplies. Vintage '08 from our Malvern apartment.
  6. @brandonmeves I did :) Roasted it for an hour.
  7. For no particular reason, on an ordinary evening, we decided to unpack the rest of our stuff tonight. We've lived here since Sept '08...
  8. Okay, I promise I'll blog about the pumpkin ale thing. But it'll probably be early next week.
  9. @MrTrav Pie pumpkins. The smaller, denser ones. More flavorful and sweeter.
  10. @brandonmeves I disagree. Mashing it just gives you sugar, but really no flavor. Boiling it extracts flavor, and keeps it from drying out.
  11. Ooo... Definitive conclusion from our pumpkin ale experiment - boiling the pumpkin is better than mashing. By far. I shall blog about this.
  12. Mmmm, our grand cru is coming along nicely. Really subtle oak, hint of cherries... I'm looking forward to this one!
  13. @basicbrewing We're going to do a side-by-side comparison tonight, I'll be tweeting about the results!
  14. @basicbrewing Just listened to the pumpkin experiment episode. We did an experiment of our own this year - mashing vs boiling the pumpkin.
  15. Just ordered a new steamer pot. Gonna use it for my first ever attempt at making tamales! Excited
  16. And just like that, Christmas shopping is complete. Man it was easy this year!
  17. So, I guess bars should be forced to stop serving Red Bull and vodka too then? http://bit.ly/6A8HO1 (link via @Cizauskas )
  18. @TimWeber Better start saving your pennies...
  19. @BestFoodBlogEVR I kinda want to make mashed potatoes just so I can make these. It's one of those, "Why didn't I think of that?" things.
  20. @SimplyBeer @hookedonwinter That is also true. Also, sometimes if you can't find something on Midwest, NB will have it.
