  1. Cramer arrived in Key West today after great cruise. Students will be able to call home Tuesday morning once onboard program concludes.
  2. Heavy rain last night with passage of a low pressure system. Now it's headed for New England, where it will be making snow in two days.
  3. Hove to about 200 miles NW of Key West, awaiting frontal passage tomorrow forecast to bring favorable winds for home.
  4. Much cooler here in the Gulf of Mexico. Chocolate no longer melts before you can unwrap it.
  5. Entered Gulf of Mexico via Yucatan Channel this AM. Lovely morning... Noticeably cooler, much ship traffic headed for US ports.
  6. Sailing west approaching Yucatan Channel between Cuba and Mexico. Expect to transit from Caribbean to Gulf of Mexico tonight.
  7. Fresh-baked bagels for breakfast. And there was great rejoicing. Now Searching in vain for a Sunday Globe.
  8. Sampling in strong trade winds. Students outside my hatch talk loudly of ice cream.
  9. Just completed busy day of sediment sampling on Pedro Bank. Good results, now headed north.
  10. Blue Mountains of Jamaica in view to the south at sunrise. First land seen in 9 days.

  12. It's "Field Day", where all turn to for a ship-wide housekeeping fest. Your kids are experts at cleaning now, whatever they tell you.
  13. Towing nets through the dark about 200 miles E of Jamaica.
  14. Yesterday chief engineer announces enough water aboard for showers every other day. And the crowd went wild....
  15. Sampling south of the Mona Passage this morning in steady trade winds, everyone doing well. Science projects in full swing.
  16. 12/01 0900: Fine sailing in trade winds, science station upcoming. Someone practicing the guitar outside my hatch, luckily he plays well.

  18. Sailed from St. Croix 11/29 1400 hours in good weather. All hands settling in to life aboard ship.
  19. Great first night offshore with just enough of everything. Stars, wind, moon, rain, dolphins. First science station completed. -Rappaport
  20. November 28, 1600: All students have arrived in St. Croix, and the BUMP cruise has begun. Plan to sail tomorrow 1430 after orientation.
