  1. Obviously, I disagree with the masses: The disco stuff on "Off the Wall" is hugely undervalued relative to the hits on "Thriller" and "Bad"
  2. last.fm produces a very pretty graph of the most popular MJ songs: http://cdn.last.fm/bestof/2009/img_mj_cavia-big.jpg
  3. @Schuggi137 Der Rest lässt mich jetzt auch nicht den Eindruck gewinnen, die Leute hätten nen guten Geschmack
  4. Hah, it gets better and better. Check this out for some very creative use of a graphics library: http://www.di2.nu/200911/23a.htm
  5. But I hereby vow to laugh at anyone who shows me a CRUTEMP series before there's a publicly replicable and peer reviewed routine available
  6. By how much should this make you update your beliefs on AGW? Probably not all that much. GISSTEMP (the NASA series) still seems decent
  7. .. and given the many bugs and incorrect construction methods, this would be an exercise of limited usefulness anyway
  8. All in all then, there exists NO WAY to replicate the CRUTEMP series from scratch, which makes it completely worthless scientifically
  9. To make matters even worse, CRU had to admit, that they lost substantial parts of the raw data from which the series was constructed
  10. .. and being completely unable to make head or tail of it. Also, loads of shoddy documentation, dirty hacks and buggy code along the way.
  11. of these files, HARRY_READ_ME.txt, has now become the most famous. It is a 3-year-long protocol of a CRU researcher analyzing the routines..
  12. A few weeks ago, someone hacked the CRU computer network and obtained a few gigs worth of emails and loads of data and computer code
  13. Some people had been petitioning CRU to release both the raw data and routines by which the series is constructed, unsuccessfully
  14. These series are used EVERYWHERE in the analysis of the earth's climate and are therefore hugely important
  15. CRUTEMP (CRU = U East Anglia Climate Research Unit) is one of only a handful of time series of global average temperature
  16. For all those that have no idea what the last two tweets mean, here's the short version:
  17. Some of the highlights of the HARRY_READ_ME.txt file: http://tinyurl.com/y89n7pj It's in-fucking-credible what passes for science.
  18. In the now infamous HARRY_READ_ME.txt file in which a researcher tries to make sense of the CRU temp series: http://tinyurl.com/ygbyztg
