  1. If there's a better Christmas album than Dolly and Kenny's Once Upon a Christmas, I haven't heard it.
  2. Making my annual trek to Bulk Barn for cookie decorating candies.
  3. Making stock for tonight's chicken soup with orzo.
  4. Tree decorating and homemade macaroni and cheese.
  5. Mashing up some Yukon Golds for my pate chinois. Eh.
  6. Succumbing to jet lag, doing laundry and making granola.
  7. Starting the long trip home. See you in 24 hours, Toronto.
  8. Cairo's Khan el-Khalili bazaar - completely insane place in a crazy, crazy city.
  9. Pyramid day - Saqqara, Dahshur, Giza.
  10. Caught our first glimpse of the Nile.
  11. "Designed for magical purposes" is my favourite part of some of the descriptions at Cairo's Egyptian Museum.
  12. Long day's journey into Cairo. But, we made it.
  13. Sailing across the Red Sea to Egypt.
  14. Relaxing by the Red Sea in Tala Bay near Aqaba, Jordan. We can see three other countries from here - Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
  15. One of the best days, off-roading through the desert, Wadi Rum, in the back of a pickup truck, out in the open, until sunset.
  16. Belly full and happy after a traditional Jordanian dinner prepared by the mom of the lovely guy who runs our hotel. Such tastiness.
  17. Rode through Petra on a donkey named Jackass.
  18. Ninth bed in 30 days. We're in Wadi Musa to visit Petra, the ancient city carved out of sheer rock face, in the morning.
  19. Then explored Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighbourhood. All before lunch (knish, latke, schnitzel, and rugelach).
  20. Caught a bus to Bethlehem, went through a West Bank checkpoint, visited where Jesus was born, got a ride from a Palestinian Christian.
