  1. I am so impressed with the administrators I was with in Page County, VA, yesterday. They're tackling tough issues re: good instruction!
  2. Today's session: getting a better handle on how we gather data when observing in classrooms, and how that informs post-obs conversations.
  3. What a busy week: Amherst VA CRISS training, St. Christopher's School CRISS training, and today a morning session with Page Co. principals.
  4. Terrific group in session at last week's "From Vision to Practice" conference hosted by VA Dept. of Ed, incl. the incomparable @craftymusic.
  5. Never enough hours in the day...prepping for a week's work in New Orleans and looking ahead to a week's work in Winston when I return.
  6. Working on more recommendations this morning and knowing that this is one heck of a tough job market for my former students to enter.
  7. Found myself using a Semantic Feature Analysis chart to explain some fence options to my General Contractor last Friday. It's so useful!
  8. Got a couple of nice notes over the weekend about my IRA session in Minneapolis. Still need to update PPT to distribute to the interested.
  9. I'm going to enjoy this week, my last before the travels of summer begin. Sunday, I'll fly out to Taos NM to do a CRISS training.
  10. There is a special joy in having the chance to write recommendations for particularly outstanding former students...such was the case today.
  11. I'm finding the "new" Newsweek to be a huge disappointment, but that's in keeping with my view of its ridiculous editor Jon Meacham.
  12. Sat next to another educ. consultant on the flight home, but he was noteworthy for the 1.5 hours he dug his elbow into my arm, viciously.
  13. A little school that could: that's what I'm feeling when looking back on this week at a charter school in New Orleans. Loved being there.
  14. Packing for a week in New Orleans (and listening to Amandine). I'm working at a charter school there with a former student from Wake Forest.
  15. I'm gearing up for spending most of next week with the instructional leaders at a spunky charter school in beleaguered New Orleans.
  16. Speaking of intense, that was what the 3-legged flight journey was like, but I made it there and back in one piece.
  17. Just returned from the IRA conference in Minneapolis. Got to do an intense 3-hr workshop to a sold-out crowd of 80, and they were awesome.
  18. Our discussions sparked a variety of thoughts, leading me to ponder again whether I should step into the realm of blogging for ReadingQuest.
  19. We had a pretty productive time, with discussion about rigor, about evidence of worthy learning, and about developing a SS honor society.
  20. Just returned from Charlottesville. It was the weekend of the annual Gathering for like-minded social studies people, led by Jim Huneycutt.
