Petroglyphs

  1. Even though there is no admission fee, that is required at other state parks. An annual state park pass would be a great holiday gift.
  2. There will not be enough funding in 2010 to staff the site, so the 2 Open Houses may be your only chance to see these petroglyphs next year.
  3. Very quiet time of year to enjoy a hike through the park.
  4. The next Open Houses for viewing the petroglyphs without a use permit are June 26 and August 7.
  5. The trails are in good shape for hiking. Lots of leaves so make sure you wear footwear with soles that have some grip.
  6. @OfficerKing the trails at the Sanilac Petroglyphs are open all year, and there is no entrance fee.
  7. We have winterized the archaeological site; no viewings until next April.
  8. We have extended the time for special viewings till mid-November when we winterize the archaeological site. Trails stay open all year.
  9. Fall color outstanding!
  10. Fall color nearing 50%. And the really good news is that the foot bridges are clear of the river ...you won't get your feet wet.
  11. Hiking trails are muddy but still passable.
  12. If you want a viewing, you've got less than a month left before we "wrap" the pavilion for the winter. Call here for a permit.
  13. Just because its the off-season, we are still trying to jumpstart a formal Friends group. Whatever your level of interest, give us a bump.
  14. If you're looking for even more 'glyphs, I highly recommend Petroglyphs Provincial Park near Peterborough, Ontario. Great hiking park too.
  15. As of tomorrow, viewing permits are $90 for a 30-minute tour.
  16. Just learned that the Saginaw Chippewa Fall Fasting Camp is NOT open to the public.
  17. An interesting question was asked today. Is the Saginaw Chippewa Fasting Camp open to the public? I am checking with them. Stay tuned.
  18. We'll winterize the pavilion the wk of Nov 9 so if you need a viewing permit for 2009, it needs to be for a date before Nov 4.
  19. Saginaw Chippewas are holding their Fall Fasting Camp here Nov 4-8.
  20. The new interpretive trail signs are neat. Worth an extra hike just to see them.
