  1. Book: Ender's Shadow, Orson Scott Card. More analytical and sophisticated than Ender's Game, though perhaps less exciting for that. Awesome.
  2. Added photos and route description from yesterday's cycling to http://bit.ly/10oS5S
  3. @Carmita_Guerra That's what the French call it, melding espresso/express - http://fr.wikipedia.org/wik... - kills me every time
  4. It's okay people - Toko 94 still does a decent caipirinha, and all is right in the world. We even got a table at Gusto. And limoncello.
  5. Since I'm thirsty, who wants to go out for cocktails tonight, and help me update http://bit.ly/NiAVh ?
  6. Paid for coffee with coins, with ¢35 to spare, before realising that I forgot my wallet; then left my water bottle behind. Got home thirsty.
  7. Cafe Uit de Kunst, Delft. Cute terrace in nice surroundings with dappled sun and funky arty interior.
  8. Cycling to Delft without M, who's out of town :( Plan to take photos for http://tinyurl.com/l9r42z and return on http://tinyurl.com/luams2
  9. @MadeleineGr No, read new books! Cryptomicron? Best recent reads: http://tinyurl.com/5bs6kq (sci-fi) http://tinyurl.com/3c4d9j (non-sci-fi)
  10. @MadeleineGr Haven't started yet. Last year I read all of his excellent and enormous 'baroque cycle'; recommended. http://tinyurl.com/6obetw
  11. Perfect holiday reading: fave author (Neal Stephenson) and 935 pages; marred only by paperback's 1.4 Kg weight. Almost finished current book
  12. And yet more #tmobilefail - after telling them to e-mail me because I've wasted enough time talking to them they phone me back.
  13. Epic #tmobilefail again: they have a training course that tells them to press Cancel after changing my address. And tell me it's my fault.
  14. Unexpected, in the book I'm reading: 'The only difference between Rotterdam and death was that with Rotterdam, the damnation wasn't eternal'
  15. Book: Martian Time Slip, Philip K Dick. Not his best or weirdest, but not far off, and ages well for a 1964 novel. http://tinyurl.com/689bpc
  16. Rotterdam cafe watch: another wannabe Starbucks - Caffè Sense, Weena-Zuid 146. Haven't tried it yet. http://tinyurl.com/lpr8uf
  17. Book: The Incredible Shrinking Man, Richard Matheson. A quick-read sci-fi/horror classic for sure, but has aged less well than I Am Legend.
  18. Book: The Arctic Event, James Cobb. Insubstantial Ludlum rip-off in a 2D setting lacks sophistication, but remains moderately entertaining.
  19. The best rural pub in Europe: Duke of Cumberland Arms, Henley Village, Fenhurst, West Sussex GU27 3HQ, UK. Tel 01428 652280.
  20. Book: Hilldiggers, Neal Asher. More good stuff from my new fave sci-fi author, but less relentlessly exciting than the Cormac ones.
