  1. Trying to rid my account of all the people who seem to have latched me onto them uninvited... It is not supposed to work like this surely?
  2. The Champagne Cognac regions are nothing to do with sparkling wine from NE France. The word comes from “campagne”, meaning countryside.
  3. Phylloxera disaster in 1870’s reduced cognac production area by 85% from 280,000 to 40,000 hectares. The production area is now c 80,000 HA.
  4. 150 years ago cognac was made from the Balzac grape, now known as Mouvèrdre in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. All grapes used now are white grapes.
  5. Message from the field; climbing in Wales, just had a BBQ at the campsite - finished off nicely with the G-P Vieille Réserve; parfait...!
  6. @stephenfry http://twitpic.com/ep2k3 - Beam me up Scotty...!
  7. A fantastic representation of state oppression and the power of the individual from Ukraine - see http://bit.ly/Y1nKm
  8. Cognac producers also make Pineaux des Charentes, a fabulous aperitif; it is ignored outside the cognac area! Try it! http://bit.ly/MaKD8
  9. Cognac alongside a cup of coffee, with a chocolate - or on its own? http://www.singleestatecognac.com/index.html
  10. Singapore is the world's second largest importer of Cognac: 20 million bottles per year, despite having a population of less than 5 million!
  11. To tell the quality of a cognac, look at how long the residue – the “legs” takes to run down the glass – the longer it takes, the better.
  12. @marklcohen Mark - do make sure that the Chinese are 100% real, there are so many chinese scammers out there, Guilin a big problem, & others
  13. @Flavorbank Apologies! I don't understand this medium, so failed to respond to your direct message. Yes, very much in the cognac business!
  14. @the_nose Is it April 1st!!? South England struggles, but does make some great wines; it'll be years before warming allows this in Scotland
  15. @yuriradchuk Many thanks for following. Grammar is something Americans don't understand! (It's with the apostrophe is just short for it is.)
  16. The Angel's share of each year's Cognac production contains as much alcohol as twenty million bottles! Is liver failure a problem in heaven?
  17. Re haggis and whisky not being Scottish; I suppose at least the Scots can hold up their male skirts - so to speak...
  18. @Ade1965 Haggis is English & Whisky came from China; if Rabbie Burns was found to be Irish the Scots would have nothing sacred left...
  19. I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy...
  20. @donreith Still don't fully understand this medium, get lots of strange followers, are there programmes that generate followers? Thanks
