  1. It's November 13. Me and F.U. are celebrating our anniversary, and trying to not make that seem as strange as it sounds.
  2. I miss covering Giants games at Yale Bowl. The team was terrible but the press box hot dogs were especially pungent.
  3. Bad mistake today: stood on media bus in Yankee parade, forgot to leave my Mets cap at home. Barely made it out of the Battery.
  4. Once kidded Jerry Grote his atbat song should be "Happy & Peppy & Bursting With Love"; sipped dinner through a straw for a month after that.
  5. Wishing for Game 7. I was arguing with my bookie on the press box phone back in '60 when Mazeroski went deep. All I remember is the ruckus.
  6. We met on the set of the old Jack Paar Show, @jhalpin37. We made the the old green room blush that night, I tell you ...
  7. This is a bad Series for my ulcer: cheesesteaks, Yuengling , bad deadlines. In the world of ulcers, Bud Selig is a carrier.
  8. Berroa was our manager, @mbensley
  9. I don't want to say Raul Ibanez is old, but his double-play partner in high school was Aristophanes. And that's not ridiculous.
  10. If Derek Jeter was really as cool as Joe Namath, he'd open a spot like Bachelors III. Cost me my marriage with Blanche, that gin joint did.
  11. Still feel bad for Plax. Giff once got drunk at 21 and hit on a wiseguy's gal; I called Murray and we hustled him out. Disaster averted.
  12. Don't tell anyone, @jhalpin37, but I've snuck Jaye P. Morgan down for a little weekend cannoodle.
  13. Good to see Norm McLean at the Series. I broke him in when he was a copy boy at the Herald.
  14. RT @benshpigel Feliz and Ruiz are both turtle-slow ******* I'd bet them to place and to show in the featured race at Aqueduct.
  15. Don't read him much, @KenDavidoff, though I am told our sartorial tastes run along similar lines.
  16. Harvey Wallbangers, @JackCurry1. He used to drink 'em like Big Gulps.
  17. Covered Phils' collapse in '64 and picked up a $1,000 bar tab for poor Gene Mauch. Kept the beancounters at the Herald dancing for a month.
  18. Dick Young and I once spent a two-hour rain delay in Pittsburgh pounding from his flask. Boy was my running a fiasco that day.
  19. Many thanks, @miklasz. Love St. Loo. I still fondly remember the all-night poker game in Bob Broeg's hotel room during the the '67 Series.
  20. More World Series rain. In '62 there were 4 straight raindays btween Gms 5 and 6; Lord did me, Whitey and The Mick ever run some Frisco beef
