  7. Listen to Jimmy Smith Trio tearing it up at the '59 Newport Festival and tell me who is the undisputed champ of the Hammond B-3 organ?
  8. The '59 Vault stuff also features a rare document of Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter in Maynard Ferguson's big band. DIG THAT!!!
  9. Also at '59 Newport, Ahmad Jamal and his trio are fresh off of their humungous smash with "Poinciana" from Live at the Pershing Room.
  10. At '59 Newport, Horace Silver was premiering new material from as-yet-unreleased Blue Note LPs, Blowin' the Blues Away and Finger Poppin'.

  14. #bluesunday Mississippi John Hurt doing "Candy Man Blues" at the Newport Folk Fest. http://twurl.nl/i66eem (I believe '65)
  15. Just saw Bill Cosby on Jay Leno's show. It was hard to listen to him meander and struggle with words. I hate it when people get old.
  16. @SCarta : I found my Dad's copies of Gent magazine when I was about 8 years old....still love 'em!
  17. I like how on Beatles Rock Band they combine the rhythm from "Tomorrow Never Knows" with George's "Within You and Without You.' Clever!
  18. @JacobyDave : Jimmy Smith was the B-3 champ, but sadly he's gone. Joey DeFrancesco's still here, and he's playing tonight at Dizzy's.
  19. Was there ever anyone 'badder' on the Hammond B-3 than Jimmy Smith? Joey DeFrancesco comes close, but Jimmy was the undisputed champ.
  20. More from '59 Newport : Dynamic performance by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, the role model for Manhattan Transfer and the New York Voices.
