  5. Town is buzzing with rumors of color being found in the hills just west of the Animas. No confirmation yet. Just talk. Too sick to check.
  6. Been down with the shakes. Sickness going around. Four dead. Doc Patterson is riding down to Rancho to get some medicine. People are nervous

  16. Murkle is back from checking the lines I see. By the looks of him and his stagger he must have stopped off by the Catina.
  17. Cold wind blowing in from the south. Tar paper I had put up on the walls is doing little to cut the chill. Wishing I had more firewood.
  18. Murkle is packing up his horse to go check the telegraph lines. Durn fool heading out so late but I suppose he has a job to do.
  19. Telegraph lines have been problematic today. Wire traffic seems sporatic.
