Mumbleys

  1. It is May still & I have just received the July ed of a mag i really like with a recipe for Blackberry wine - mine havent even flowered yet!
  2. Polytunnel coming into its own with strawberries, broad beans, rocket & spinach for supper. Kept the doors open all day to let the heat out!
  3. Great day last Friday - Shearing Course - a super group of keen people, my two talented shearers & lots of patient sheep+grt lunch+sun=fun!
  4. News Update - eepurl.com/lGg9H
  5. @SheepdogTeacher @mumbleys I know crazy isnt it - last year i extracted honey on 30th April which was the other extreme!
  6. Just off to top up the bees sugar syrup as too cold for them to fly. Think i can guarantee that honey will be in short supply this year :(
  7. Sunny day - saw more waggledances in one day than ever before - bees racing to restock. Pigs sunbathed, dogs wateched the world & I weeded.
  8. Gave pigs & piglets breakfast in bed this morning! Raced out in head to toe plastic - baking sticky cake for tea instead. For us, not pigs!
  9. Could this go on record as the wettest drought ever? Pond & butts overflowing, fields soaked! I know it is not enough but it feels like it!
  10. Cold wet weather after warm weather in March means bees cant get out to find food for their babies, so i have had to feed them sugar syrup!
  11. #ff to @NormandyR - getting through a lot of creme fraiche, lemons & garlic after your inspiring cooking. Not forgetting mussels & frites!
  12. Skylarks flying , singing like mad as they get higher & higher & then plummet down like dive bombers - looks such fun & amazing to watch!
  13. Moving & separating animals on your own is a good workout - lots of running around & chucking food to distract/tempt them. Gr8 success tho!
  14. Demand so high, we have added two new beekeeping courses: 14 July & 24 Aug if you havent booked yet. Its never too late to learn about bees
  15. @nicelittleplace @mumbleys Just added two more courses over the summer as all the rest fully booked - hugely popular as usual.
  16. @nicelittleplace Looks lovely, wish i could come.....
  17. The new arrival Mumbleys Bryony, born yesterday, with Mum, Imogen, left & a very curious heifer, Susie! Just gorgeous! twitter.com/Mumbleys/statu…
  18. Put an extension on my National Brood chamber with larger frames. Bees so much happier & much easier to check than brood & a half. Try it.
  19. Just done my 1st electronic pig movement online. Cld they have made it more complicated? No online calendar, lots of silly questions etc..
  20. Oops - cooked a piece of our Slow Roast beef at 230c last night. Still a bit pink in the middle and still delicious & tender - unbeatable!
