  1. Either one of my neighbors has some fireworks left over from July, or else there are giants playing nine-pins on my roof.
  2. Whoa! The 49-year-old Superintendant of Schools in Ethan, South Dakota just died from complications of H1N1 Flu. Wow.
  3. @Glowster BTW, in the Midwest and on the Great Plains, pioneers made mostly sod houses instead of log cabins: http://tinyurl.com/yegzkng
  4. @Glowster I should ask her if she remembers a mill of any sort when she visited.
  5. @Glowster There's a restored "prairie village" on this side of the state. My dau went on a field trip when she was a kid in school.
  6. @Glowster WOW! How much do you think is missing?
  7. @Glowster Cool. Yup. I saw the photo of you next to the sign.
  8. @Glowster ... and not enough trees on this side of South Dakota for sawmills.
  9. @Glowster Most grist mills in the Midwest lay in ruins like this one: http://tinyurl.com/yfxnl2e
  10. @Glowster Can't say I'd be surprised at someone pocketing public funds when they think no one's looking.
  11. @Glowster I'm pretty sure most of the old mills here in SD are historical markers now. I doubt the sawmills in the Black Hills are historic.
  12. @Glowster You mean someone else got paid for work *you* did?
  13. @Glowster Haven't, but I would be fascinated if I did. Humongous tinker toys. :-) Lots of mills have fallen to fire over the centuries.
  14. @Glowster They didn't mention Bethel, of course, but I think the probable proximity added a little something to it for me. :-)
  15. @Glowster I've never paid a whole LOT of attention to TOH, since I'm not a homeowner, but I found that particular project fascinating.
  16. @Glowster Lots of brownstones in Brooklyn, but I didn't get the address. ;-) It was actually an entire 10-part series during the winter.
  17. @Glowster Speaking of woodworking, did you see the This Old House Brooklyn Brownstone project on PBS? http://tinyurl.com/5j274m
  18. @Glowster That's too bad. It was a beautiful area.
  19. @Glowster Not what it used to be, I guess?
  20. @Glowster Well, you're close enough to the Poconos for that!
