  1. They're all from hell. RT @huffmedia: http://bit.ly/8pgp8W - TIME declares "The Decade From Hell"
  2. @southsouth thnx.. privacy/identity issues are important to me & the ezln are a unique 'experiment' on so many levels, inc. that one.
  3. RT @mosabou: On the difference between science and philosophy (from the blog Rationally Speaking) http://bit.ly/2zpGVG
  4. RT @networkpolitics: http://bit.ly/5p cfp: Deliberation, Collaboration, Mobilisation: Digital Media and Networked Participation
  5. RT @trixl: Interactive map of minority groups in Britain http://bit.ly/4yKoo3
  6. "The injunction everywhere to “be someone” maintains the pathological state that makes this society necessary" - The Invisible Committee
  7. @1D4TW Ha! Yes, I've thought of that before too, theoretically. Networked knowledge is hard to incorporate into current institutions...
  8. @1D4TW But here you can see that anonymity is a major factor in the EZLN's effort in forging an truly autonomous zone outside the state
  9. @1D4TW Funnily enough, the mask, pipe & Marcos himself (always referring to himself as communicator) were raised w/ time to iconic status
  10. @1D4TW Oh yes, I remember reading this a while back. Marcos' point here is w/ respect to the movement - the mask as weapon against vozhdism
  11. @1D4TW I'll give the link a look now, but that's certainly a very strong potential that anonymity can foster.
  12. @1D4TW: So perhaps we're approaching this at cross-purposes, as it's not really an activist strategy to me, but a personal ethic/aesthetic
  13. @1D4TW - well, a proverb really - "familiarity breeds contempt" - I find this rings quite true in some societies, esp. my own.
  14. @1D4TW: My own concern is micropolitical - I like to police who may know me as I am here, and who may know more. A quote comes to mind:
  15. @1D4TW: Like I said, those w/ power aren't my personal concern - though I wonder why one would want to make their work easier...
  16. gives people the impression that their commitment is a coin-toss either way. Or maybe I just have crappy friends. Both ways, seen it happen.
  17. In my experience, this kind of thing applies to "friends" virtual & "friends" actual alike - something about the routinization of the invite
  18. RT @kirstinbutler: Guy invites 700 FB “friends” to meet up; 60 RSVP as “maybes” & 15 “attending.” One actually showed up. http://is.gd/532l5
  19. @1D4TW: i.e. it's not just about protecting yourself, it's about making your actual social network invisible, w/ all that that entails.
  20. @1D4TW: A more practical aspect of that philosophy is the fact that many times you protect those around you from yourself & your words.
