  1. If you must use a podium, don't use it as a crutch. Use it as a symbol of power by lightly touching it rather than grasping it for support.

  9. If you want to make someone feel comfortable, stand up and look at them at eye level rather than from a sitting position.
  10. When you want to include people keep your palms facing up. When you want to exclude them, keep your palms facing towards them.
  11. Dealing with conflict? keep your hands away from your hair/head. It shows discomfort, uncertainty and nervousness. Poor negotiating tactic.
  12. When dealing with conflict, use a charge neutral voice-it's like asking for the salt and pepper at the dinner table and you will be heard.
  13. Standing with hands behind your back? People wonder what you are hiding. It's an arrogant position. Be careful using it with customers.
  14. Standing in a fig leaf position to accept an award is deadly. People aren't looking at your face, they're looking at where your hands are!
  15. When at a networking event, you plan what you are going to say but do you plan what your body is going to say? It says so much more!
  16. Your body language tells people about your attitude, Your body language should never say something different than words.
  17. Watch your body language during negotiations. Are you giving away information about yourself non-verbally?
  18. When your body language complements your verbal message, people seek you out because you are congruent. Most people aren't.
  19. When calling a client with an apology, make certain your body language is positive. You don't want to victimize yourself twice!
