Santa Barbara County Syrahs are terrific. The Pinots are too, but much Pinot competition from elsewhere. Syrah not so much.

Kaena Grenache 2006 Larner Vineyard. Intense strawberry, almost cherry-like with a soft earthiness. Spice and herbs. High ABV but balanced.

Luis Alegre 2003 Pontac Rioja-a gorgeous wine both rich and elegant. Silky w/ dark fruit, earthiness, spice, gentle tannins. Age this baby!
