  1. @RonHogan That's great! You should know that I"m not reading at the Housing Works party, just listening &hanging. Read next nite at B&N.
  2. @RonHogan This would be for LOVE IS A FOUR LETTER WORD, the anthology of "love gone bad." Me, Juniot Diaz, Lynda Barry, others.

  5. Lattes for Deedie; Belgian waffles for Sean. And here, mid-morning, i'm sitting at my desk, ready to have another go at the book.
  6. @drivingdesoto yeah I know, I know. But a friend of the devil is a friend of mine.
  7. The "Transgender All Star" blog post, meant as a baseball joke, has me fielding nominations for other MVP's. http://tinyurl.com/mccaqv
  8. @katebornstein Not that I sit around laughing at my own jokes. But yes, your "offensive skills" made me laugh while I was writing it.
  9. @katebornstein. You made the lineup for the 2009 Transgender All-Star game! More at: http://tinyurl.com/mccaqv

  11. Later, RR quoted Magwitch, talking to PIp in G.E.:"YOu and me, we always been the best of friends, 'avent we Pip?" A sweet, fun night.
  12. Surprise party for Richard Russo went off without a hitch. Family, friends, even agents. Prosecco on a deck overlooking Camden harbor.
  13. Perfect Maine summer day. Wrote til 2. Then: dogs in boat, long cruise. Steak on the grill. Listened to "Honky Chateau" and watched the lake
  14. Up early. Sunrise on lake with coffee and labrador retrievers. Wrote til noon. Next: boat ride to general store for lunch. Maine Summer!
  15. @caprice_b take me with you!
  16. Last night: butter pecan cone, Coney Island, near midnight. Ghost town. Plus: malted milk balls. Cyclone, wonder wheel, and the sea...
  17. Finished the ARC of new Richard Russo THAT OLD CAPE MAGIC. A friend gave it to me. I imagine it will be huge. Brilliant & wise & sweet.
  18. @RonHogan John Gardner: "The proper function of the critic is to praise. What cannot be praised must be surrounded with respectful silence."
  19. @RonHogan human though. You spend years working on something with love, and a reviewer just sharpens their knives? Hurts.
  20. @RonHogan in re Hoffman: it's a strong urge though. I once emailed a washpost reviewer, told he made me cry. Was that a mistake? Yes.
