  13. Funding is another major obstacle for the higher ed system to sustain the health/viability needed to meet the challenge.
  14. South Dakota is the highest 12.1% of a family's household income needed to go to one of their 4 year institution, Hawaii is the lowest 6.5%
  15. Idaho ranks 7th among 15 Western States in percentage of household income vs. go-to-public college costs: 8.8% for a 4 year school, 4.0% 2yr

  17. Idaho is showing great improvement in freshman @4 yr institutions returning for their 2nd year: 56% to 66% improvement in recent years.
  18. The national rate is 56.1% (6 year graduation rate)
  19. Idaho has one of the best (lowest) high school drop out rates in the country (2.9%) but only 42.9% go on to college (2yr, 4yr or more).
  20. One of the keys to long term strategic planning in education is accurately assessing the current landscape and identifying the challenges.
