  1. Poor weather forecast for the Peninsula so no more science flights. Planning to pack the aircraft Sunday and leave Punta Arenas on Monday.
  2. The forecast doesn't look so good so we've scrubbed tonight's flight. We'll plan for a 9 am local takeoff tomorrow.
  3. Plan for our last Antarctic flight: 5pm local takeoff today to catch a possible weather opening on the Peninsula (24-hr daylight there now).
  4. Our stats since the mission started: 21 flights over Antarctica and 96,564 statute miles flown -- equal to about 4 times round the world!
  5. Tough weather situation today for a return to Thwaites. After consulting with the local weather staff, we cancelled for the day.
  6. A successful flight yesterday to the Thwaites Glacier region. All instruments reported successful measurements.
  7. [Video] Here is a VERY close-up view of Antarctic sea ice from a special camera system onboard the DC-8. http://tr.im/Ffdy
  8. The DC-8 is off again this morning from Punta Arenas -- our 21st flight of the mission! Target today is Thwaites Glacier.
  9. AMAZING photos from yesterday's DC-8 flight down mountain glacier valleys to the ice shelf edge. Thanks to Michael S! http://tr.im/F8IZ
  10. Monday's flight to the Larsen Ice Shelf and nearby glaciers a success. Pics to come.
  11. Our 2,000th follower signed up today! We have a lot more (5 years) science & polar exploration coming your way. Thanks everyone!
  12. DC-8 is off on another Antarctic flight today -- an 11-hour roundtrip to the Larsen Ice Shelf.
  13. Space Station astronauts are keeping an eye on glaciers too. Here's a pic from last month of Argentina's Upsala Glacier. http://tr.im/F44t
  14. Yesterday's flight over the Evans ice stream had mostly clear sky, so we got a lot of data. Larsen Ice Shelf may be the target today.
  15. We're off again to Antarctica. DC-8 left Punta Arenas this morning to fly to the Evans Glacier area of the Peninsula.
  16. Flight today cancelled. The airport tug that moves the DC-8 to the taxi area broke down. Should be fixed for a flight tomorrow.
  17. Some VERY thin ice in Pine Island Bay, glimpsed during our Antarctic flight on Monday. http://tr.im/ETZx
  18. http://twitpic.com/pdfo7 - Early data from Nov. 5 flight: A high-altitude topographic map of Crane Glacier from the NASA Goddard LVIS instru
  19. Dodged clouds yesterday over Abbot Ice Shelf for a very productive science flight. Weather over Antarctica bad today, so no flight planned.
  20. On our way to the Abbot Ice Shelf now. Clouds may be an issue, but this is our first chance to fly over this area during the mission.
