  1. If you kept a garden journal. Consult your journal in the winter, so that you can better plan for the growing season.
  2. Mentioned planting garlic yesterday, but you can also still plant spring blooming bulbs... they just might be a little late :)
  3. It may be late in the season but it's still a good time to plant garlic for harvest next summer.
  4. Even with the rain, make sure that landscape plants in protected sites receive water regularly during the winter.

  12. Check your local garden center for gift ideas and gift cards. Also great ideas for planning a spring garden!

  14. Avoid mounding mulching materials at the bases of trees and shrubs. Mulch might provide cover for rodents & hold in moisture on the trunk.
  15. Spread wood ashes evenly and LIGHTLY on your vegetable garden. Too much can change the pH of your soil. A little goes a long way!
  16. The rain is back... Did you move your pots under cover when it was cold? Go out and water them if they have become dry.
  17. Protect new landscape plants from wind. Use stakes, guy wires and/or windbreaks as needed. Keep them watered as well.
  18. Turn the compost pile and protect from heavy rains, if necessary.
  19. During heavy rains, watch for drainage problems in the yard. Tilling, ditching, and French drains are possible short-term solutions.
  20. The weather is warming up. Get out & check the condition of your plants and look for damage. Do preventative maint. for the next storm.
