  1. Driving to the store, listened to Bud Powell. He was a turbulent genius and led a troubled life, but he made some deeply beautiful music.
  2. Driving home from the Steve Allen Theater, listened to the timeless, piano-less, beautiful collaboration of Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan.
  3. Performing my show Cartoon Dump 8:00PM tonight, Steve Allen Theater, special guests Duncan Trussell, Dave "Gruber" Allen and Dana Gould!
  4. Driving from the airport, listened to J. Elvis and Gruber agree with me that we had a great time doing Cinematic Titanic live in St. Louie.
  5. Performing with Cinematic Titanic tonight in St. Louis at the Family Arena. Call me crazy, but I'm screwy for St. Louie!
  6. Drove to the airport this morning to go to St. Louis, listened to Bill Evans to sooth and inspire me before I braced for the tumult of LAX.
  7. @benschwartzy The Mercer doc is well worth watching, great footage of him on 50s & 60s TV variety shows that I wished they'd shown more of.
  8. Driving to Santa Monica, running Cinematic Titanic-related errands, listened to Johnny Mercer centennial concert on Terry Gross's NPR show.
  9. Driving to Westwood, listened to The Carpenters. "We've Only Just Begun," "Rainy Days And Mondays," "Close To You" - all great records!
  10. Drove around listening to Jazz while, apparently, someone was hacking my Twitter account. Sorry to all who got bullshit direct messages.
  11. Performing stand up comedy tonight, Sunset Gardner Stages, 1501 North Gardner Street, Hollywood CA, 11:00PM. It's Friday the Funteenth!
  12. Drove to Beverly Glen, listened to Louis Armstrong sing "Let That Be A Lesson To You," a great Mercer/Whiting song from "Hollywood Hotel."
  13. Watched "Hollywood Hotel" on TCM. Plot was stopped for Benny Goodman tune with Hamp, Krupa, and Teddy Wilson. All movies should do this!
  14. Drove to the store, listened to Joe Henderson, a great tenor saxophonist, a contemporary of Coltrane and Rollins and in their class.
  15. Drove home from Fake Gallery last night listening to "Somethin' Else" by Cannonball Adderley. His solo on "Autumn Leaves" is stunning.
  16. Performing stand up comedy tonight with Tom Agna and Hugh Moore at Fake Gallery, 4319 Melrose, 323 644 4946, 8:30 and 10:30, only 5 bucks!
  17. Drove down the hill, listened to more of my favorite Johnny Mercer songs, "I Thought About You," "Midnight Sun," "I'm Old Fashioned."
  18. Watched Johnny Mercer doc on TCM, then drove to Steve Allen Theater, listening to great versions of his songs on Verve Mercer collection.
  19. Drove home from the Steve Allen Theater last night listening to Louis Armstrong sing and play "I Was Doing Alright," a great Gershwin song.
  20. Driving home from Fake Gallery, listened to The Young Girls of Rochefort. Again. Okay, it's official: this is my favorite movie soundtrack.
