EssentialChurch

  1. Essential churches demonstrate that personal Bible study is critical in the spiritual maturity of believers.
  2. Don't compromise on Scripture. We do people a great disservice when we water down God's Word.
  3. To reach the younger generation, the church must be a reaching and teaching church.
  4. Unity gets the attention of the world. Young people will have little patience for a church that is divided.
  5. Congested churches and stagnant believers are the antithesis of God's plan. The essential church is a simple church.
  6. Essential churches strive to connect new members with others in the church. Nonessential churches assume it will just happen.
  7. If a guest came into your church with no previous relational connections, how difficult would it be for him or her to connect with others?
  8. The structural problem in many churches is that people are not intentionally led toward small groups, and relationships are not formed.
  9. Serve the teens in your community. Be open and honest with them. You can not lead them unless they buy into your leadership.
  10. Simply relegating the youth ministry to the youth minister is not enough. Pastors must be personally involved.
  11. Essential churches show the younger generation why participating in a local church body is critical to a person's spiritual walk.
  12. Teens can spot insincerity a mile away. They are attracted to genuineness even if they don't agree with whatever it is.
  13. Churches should be the one place where a person feels as if he or she is contributing to something greater.
  14. We all need to live up to our calling as the church. Essential churches show by example that they are what they claim.
  15. A church that keeps its students is one that is transparent with them about the realities of Christianity.
  16. Obvious sins that were once regarded as clearly taboo are creeping up the ladder of acceptability within the younger generation.
  17. The outside world looks at legalism as hypocrisy. They know that we are supposed to reach out, yet they see us build walls instead.
  18. To combat the perception of hypocrisy, we must be proactive in teaching, consistent in lifestyle and authentic in struggles.
  19. Church attendance must be accompanied by sharing our faith. Otherwise, children mimic the behavior w/o understanding why it's important.
  20. Parents must do more than tell children that church is important. They must show that church is essential to the entire family.
