  1. @elizabethahall What sorts of bedtime stories? (Hope I'm not bugging you. Have to stay awake until 1:00 to do work stuff.)
  2. @digitalstatic No, it is not... but you shouldn't let such trivialities get in your way. :)
  3. If you're reading this, you're not at Ritual Cafe listening to Lojo Russo... Which is likely an error on your part. :)
  4. @elizabethahall Stay strong. Let us* know if you need anything. (* "us" could be your friends on twitter or me and my cats, whatever)
  5. @vseanclark Oh thank you! That's an awesome feature!
  6. @Kenny Oh sure, "do some reading" at the same time that @vseanclark 's football life tweeting starts. ;)
  7. @Kenny Future 2: Results in a population ideally suited to deal with problems that were solved a generation ago.
  8. @Kenny Future 2: Back out, let the chips fall where they may and allow people's short term views to win over guidance.
  9. @Kenny Future 1: Results in a population that can innovate and respond to future struggles.
  10. @Kenny Future 1: fund education and improve access to maximize the creativity and flexibility of the population.
  11. @Kenny I agree it was never meant to do this... but I that that's what it has to do. It comes down to a choice of futures.
  12. @Kenny Having a well educated population who can work with the latest technology is table stakes now. We're losing ground as it is.
  13. @Kenny Well, those large investments are being made in other counties... by their governments.
  14. @Kenny I'd love for a free market, but I don't think that you can get a free market where large infrastructure investment is required.
  15. @Kenny While I'd rather not have to trust either, I must note that the government is (slightly) more likely to care about long-term needs.
  16. @Kenny So the question is... who can we trust the most, the government or the telcos?
  17. @Kenny Government is not about maximizing efficiency, but attempting to maximize fairness and stability.
  18. @Kenny It may not do it well, but it does a lot better than when you rely strictly on markets. I love markets, but they must be balanced.
  19. @Kenny One of the jobs of government is to maximally benefit the majority, not the elite... over the long term.
  20. @Kenny 2) Both companies and customers tend towards maximizing short term financial gains.
