Eastridinghoney

  1. Just taken final batch of 2011 creamed honey to Southwood Farm Shop. Fingers crossed the honeyflow keeps going to start 2012 harvest.
  2. People ring about a swarm and always say its the "size of a rugby ball". This actually means its the "shape" of a rugby ball. Funny that.
  3. I regularly get panic calls from bkprs who need frames, foundation, hive boxes because "my bees have swarmed !". So, bees swarm, who knew?
  4. Delivering honey to @WFKHornsea and sitting outside in sunshine with a drink.
  5. @nigelsbees good luck with the bee inspector. It must be worrying. Its a good sign that your bees seem to be doing so well.
  6. Beautiful pollen comb this afternoon, probably OSR and Dandelion . All this pollen will be turned into young bees soon. twitter.com/Eastridinghone…
  7. All day splitting hives, making nucs looking for queens and sweating. Got home to find huge swarm in home apiary not come from my hives !
  8. Eating sarnies before I tackle 2nd apiary of the day. Not really weather for wellies, overalls and gloves but no complaints.
  9. Ok last tweet about #Slovenia. More about #beekeeping in Slovenia on my site at eastridinghoney.co.uk/Slovenia.html @SloveniaInfo
  10. In #Slovenia we saw these two bee trucks by the roadside. Bkprs were taking honey from each hive. No smoke no veils twitter.com/Eastridinghone…
  11. Took advantage of the warm day and did #bees. Had to split 3 hives as ready to swarm. Packed car and trailer and off to 2 sites tomorrow.
  12. @annmarieclark13. Did Google search for it recently but references seemed old so maybe it is gone. Could ask @Scarborough_UK
  13. @plantmad the flower meadows, forests of sweet chestnut and limes and honeydew from conifers all make for a honeybee paradise.
  14. @60OSE no not go to the caves but did visit the Vintgar Gorge which we really enjoyed. It gets busy later in season but quiet in May.
  15. I really need to get into lots of hives to make splits , swarm control and starting queen rearing but it is so cold.
  16. The Slovenian for waterfall is slap. So the drunk geordie says to the enquiring Slovenian tourist in Teesdale "you looking for a slap?"
  17. Slovenia has the highest proportion of #beekeepers in the world. 7,000 out of pop of 2 million. UK has 40,000 in pop of 62 million
  18. The #beekeeper I met by the roadside was Bostjan Noc, president of the Slovenian BKA. He offered to sell me some queens twitter.com/Eastridinghone…
  19. Slovenia is home to the Carniolan #bee, has been bred for 100s of years to be pure and suited to the climate. 1000s of queens are exported
