  1. Evaluating teachers by their students' test scores is a dumb idea. What role does student motivation play? None? Poverty? None?
  2. The Race to Nowhere is the Obama express train to privatizing hundreds or thousands of public schools.
  3. Read my blog at "Bridging Differences" (EdWeek). It is titled "Obama's Race to Nowhere."
  4. Finished the index yesterday. It is beautiful. Whoever knew that an index could be beautiful?
  5. Detroit story is logical end of stupid claims that teachers alone are responsible for stuent scores: not students or families.
  6. Story of the day: Detroit parents want teachers jailed if student scores don't go up. Who will teach?
  7. Most kids live in poor families. How will they be able to travel to school if they don't get free or half-price bus-subway pass?
  8. Odd thing happening in NY. MTA about to kill student bus-subway passes, but choice program requires long trips to school
  9. Will Tisch and Steiner toss out the phony tests? Duncan says we are lying to our children. He is right.
  10. NY state's phony tests showed soaring scores in recent years. 71% of 8th graders in NYC alleged proficient, but only 26% on NAEP.
  11. NAEP displays the fraud of NY state scores. State says 85% of kids in grade 4 are proficient, but only 35% on NAEP.
  12. NAEP scores released today for cities. Very interesting. No reduction in achievement gap in NYC since mayoral control.
  13. Check "Bridging Differences" at Edweek today for my riff on Obama and Duncan's launch of NCLB 2.0.
  14. Real accountability would mean helping struggling schools, not closing them. But we have no education leaders, just charlatans.
  15. Any time a school superintendent or a mayor closes down a "failing school," it is the leadership that has failed, not the school.
  16. Any claims of education miracles are fraudulent. Education is hard work, steady work. No miracles.
  17. The current era of school reform is our great national fraud.
  18. The current era of chool reform is our great national fraud.
  19. Yesterday NY Post reported 74% of NYC high school graduates in 2-year colleges require remediation. So much for "ending social promotion."
  20. Race to the Top: NCLB 2.0
