  1. Back on the Zeppelin bootleg trail. Zurich 1980 is truly frightening: http://bit.ly/3lTOC.
  2. I know Fela catalog has been reissued countless times, but this new compilation is still great: http://bit.ly/1SjkHx.
  3. [Thanks much] @thestevelehman Threadgill box only covers RCA/Novus Sexte(t) albums, i.e., not first three. Too bad, but I'm still psyched!
  4. Great @liturgynyc live set @wfmu: http://bit.ly/1RRovA.
  5. Re-examining saxist Akira Sakata's new Family Vineyard disc w/ Darin Gray and Chris Corsano: http://bit.ly/M2OmG. Raw yet really subtle.
  6. Check out the new Wire to read my feature on Henry Threadgill: http://bit.ly/by3rn. Had a lot of fun prepping for this and interviewing HT.
  7. Full review of Friday's insane R. Kelly show: http://bit.ly/2BC0dp.
  8. R. Kelly at WaMu tonight, still turning absurdly banal observations into songs: "I aaaaalmost tripped over that carpet three goddamn times."
  9. My take on last night's Them Crooked Vultures show, w/ killer pics: http://bit.ly/3q0PKh.
  10. Another strong contender is "King Harvest." RT @seriousbizrec Across the Great Divide= greatest Levon Helm drum performance.
  11. Wadada Leo Smith continues to keep groove-based jazz vital on the new "Spiritual Dimensions": http://bit.ly/vB1ha. Okkyung Lee = wild card.
  12. Spun "Mingus Plays Piano" on the train this a.m. What a staggeringly gorgeous album.
  13. Trailer for great new Sonny Simmons doc, via my bud Dan Scofield: http://bit.ly/35EIcE.
  14. Dude, full album is honestly amazing. RT @zacharymexico Listened to that new Julian Casablancas single again...
  15. Just now getting around to Borah Bergman's latest, Luminescence: http://bit.ly/3SeGnM. Really beautiful, trancey trio stuff.
  16. Enjoying new Loren Stillman album, Winter Fruits: http://bit.ly/vtdcZ. Comes off as pillowy and lush but it's secretly out there.
  17. Evan Parker and Joe McPhee, tenor duets at the Stone last night. Dense and at times intensely thorny, but overall, surprisingly mellow.
  18. Many argue on principle that Jawbox was better during Dischord years, but "Sweetheart" (originally on Atlantic) is easily their best album.
  19. Just rec'd Dischord reissue of Jawbox's "...Special Sweetheart": http://bit.ly/2zViyg. Adored this in '90s and still totally stand by it.
  20. Two great latter-day Anthony Braxton records I'd slept on till today: http://tr.im/ATRH and http://bit.ly/Oo7bZ.
