  1. #gairydydd #welsh Yes, bola or bol is belly - that was easy! And from before - cysgu (to sleep), ceirios (cherries) and cimwch (lobster).
  2. If you have too much in your bola, it can be hard to cysgu, but some food is hard to resist - ceirios and cimwch are nice but not together!
  3. Children are often quite fascinated by the Bible story of Jonah in the bola of a whale. I always thought I would kick until it let me out!
  4. Bola-dancing seems to be quite popular with some women, though I think I'd go for the flying carpet if that were available
  5. Today's word is bola, sometimes just pronounced bol. It's part of your anatomy and has an annoying tendency to expand with age
  6. #gairydydd #welsh Tad-cu is southern for grandfather (it's taid in the north as @blogdroed pointed out). And did you get neuadd from before?
  7. My other tad-cu was a painter and decorator by trade, but he did a bit of sign-writing on the side. He did a nice one for the town neuadd.
  8. One tad-cu of mine was called Reginald. That's not a name given to many children these days, is it?
  9. @JayneM_VI Sad to hear that.
  10. @blogdroed You just pre-empted my next tweet ;-)
  11. @ffawd AFAIK, tymhestlog is more usual when talking about a stormy (tempestuous) personality or relationship than talking about the weather.
  12. Nice family-orientated word today with Christmas coming. Tad-cu always gets excited about having the grandchildren about for the holidays.
  13. @hurricaneally @FourFourTwo "peiriant pelydr X" is literally "machine ray X". It's an imported scientific term, so the X is acceptable.
  14. @ffawd Stormus is what I usually hear in the South - maybe one of our Northern friends will answer that question for you :)
  15. @ffawd Actually I prefer the traeth in the winter - wrap up warm, brisk walk along the beach with wind off the sea - love it :)
  16. @starsburn Actually I prefer the traeth in the winter - wrap up warm, brisk walk along the beach with wind off the sea - love it :)
  17. #gairydydd #welsh ... yes, 2 words to remind you of summer - traeth (beach) and môr (sea or ocean). I can't imagine lying on the traeth now!
  18. #gairydydd #welsh ... there was ystafell ymolchi (bathroom), ystafell gwely (bedroom), 1 we had more recently - adar (birds), plus .....
  19. #gairydydd #welsh So let's see - how did you go today? Yes, today's word was cysgu - to sleep, and we had a few from quite a while ago ...
  20. @dudgeoh A friend of mine once went to cysgu in the sun with her arms above her head and burnt her armpits .. very painful :(
