  1. HB 87 & 88 would require the posting of comprehensive financial info. on schools. HB 90 would create a searchable state budget database.
  2. HB 86 would require agencies post their financial informmation on-line, including employees' salary and benefits by job title.
  3. HB 86 to 90 propose giving taxpayers more tools to learn how their tax dollars are being spent.
  4. Similar versions of the 5 bills, sponsored by Rep. Greg Lavelle, were introduced during the previous 144th General Assembly in both chambers
  5. Bills seeking to expand the scope of financial info. available to the public on-line (HB 86 to HB 90) remain bottled-up in House committees.

  8. An effort led by State Rep. Tom Kovach has gathered 100 bags of food to help the needy. The food drive was conducted in Kovach's 6th Dist.
  9. HB 301 would not change the requirement that such notices be published in the newspaper. The bill has 11 sponsors and/or co-sponsors.
  10. Today's other prefiled bill would allow county Reg. of Wills to post notice of the opening of a decedent's estate on the county website.
  11. The bill contains no def. of what a "reasonable" amount of time is, nor does it have any enforcement clause should the agencies not comply.
  12. Agencies exceeding the time limit must notify those req. the records of the delay and issue the documents in a "reasonable" amount of time.
  13. HB 300 has bipartisan support, but contains a provision allowing agencies to exceed the 10 days when the info. is hard to access or compile.
  14. Only 2 bills were filed. HB 300 would amend the Freedom of Info. Act to mandate that agencies respond to a request within 10 business days.
  15. The DE House of Reps did a "pre-file" today (the last of 2009), allowing bills to be introduced even though the House is not in session.

  17. State Rep. Dan Short was recently honored with two awards: one for his efforts to further public education, the other for aiding DE's needy.
  18. The reform measure corrected the problem's cause, and dealt with the issue of the exsiting violations, removing uncertainty for those owners
  19. Many homes and other structures had unknowingly been built in the right-of-ways, creating a threat such buildings would need to be destroyed
  20. Rep. Carey authored reform legislation dealing with tax ditch right-of-ways. There are thousands of miles of such ditches in DE.
