  2. Strawberry plants don't do well at temps below 5F. It's cold enough to mulch your beds with 2-3 in. of straw or hay for winter protection

  8. Harvest winter squash before frost hits. Let them cure to toughen rinds in a warm spot at 80F for 10 days, then store at 55F up to 5 months
  9. Keep carrots, beets, & turnips in the ground until a hard freeze. Then bring them in but keep them in a plastic bag with holes at 32-42F
  10. Protect soil this winter by sowing cover crops. Winter rye stays dormant in winter, oats grow well in fall but will die off by winter.
  11. May be frost tonight - cover tomatoes, peppers, squashes, etc. in the garden with sheet to keep them going a little longer
