  1. Huge project with entire team to vet archived paper files. 25+ spent the day saving and not. Great historical finds for everyone.
  2. Travelled east; now back to research. Fave - corporationwiki.com, gives me all businesses at an address. Helps decipher agents and managers.
  3. Fundraisers forget paper files exist the further we move away from paper. Can't scan. Moving central (paper) file index to the database.
  4. Planning for mid-year review of the division-wide fiscal year plans. Is the word 'plan' in that sentence enough? Goal: teach planning. Hmm.
  5. Rakedin.com is worth checking out. 200K companies; 600K people. Create a (free) account and track companies and prospects.
  6. Talking to small nonprofit folks about research today. Easy and exciting to add a bit of research to help major gift getting.
  7. Can I say enough times how cool Tara Calishain's ResearchBuzz is? This week she tells us about Google's new search options. I love knowing!
  8. At intersection of paper and electronic. How to deal with old paper files? Thinking about managing them better without losing valuable info.
  9. Getting Google archived news hits in search results. Scanned docs from small-town newspapers. Can life get any better for a researcher?
  10. Spotted PCWorld's late July Top Web Sites. First stop, undiscovered info sites. MeeHive (customize news) and namechk (across 122 sites).
  11. Blockshopper in search results lately. Interesting real estate resource for researchers without budgets. Not much coverage, but a fun model.
  12. Nice short story in recent Puget Sound Business Journal about Gates Fdn giving to obscure U.S. org. It's about who is linked to it at Gates.
  13. Spoke at WA Planned Giving Council-Seattle chptr today. Fun to spread the gospel of prospect research to them. Several researchers there!
  14. Imperative to design information infrastructure to support data integrity; other divisions must support goal. Perils awful if left undone.
  15. Russell Investments, founded in Tacoma in the 1930s, sold in 1999 to East Coast base NML, is leaving town for the big city. Sad, sad.
  16. Dynamic teams making changes that impact information capture and retrieval. How to coordinate? Work groups? En masse reporting?
  17. Looking at muckety. Social maps are really cool - yesterday's of the Kennedys good to see. Check muckety's list of people. Some you know?
  18. ResearchBuzz tweets digest to email - nice. See Tara's analysis of Yahoo's new search effort at http://ow.ly/15MqsU.
  19. Bosses do not want to be friended, new study says. Not by their bosses or by their employees. By fundraisers? Need to wonder?
  20. Tailoring research database briefing reports for other teams to use is tough work. Line by line review for what can be in, what can't. Whew.
