  1. So, I migrated the last of Lycos properties from Oracle to MySQL today. That was a pretty good task - cleaned up a LOT of cruft and bad SPs
  2. DBD::drizzle 0.200 released! http://capttofu.livejournal...
  3. Comment in the code: "# kind of funny.. this is a lot longer than direct sql but I figure we'll stick with all sp's." violation of KISS
  4. @Eric_Herman someone once said (maybe Antony?) that XML is a solution looking for a problem. I agree.
  5. Ug. Ug. Every database call in the Perl code (Lycos Blogs) that I'm converting to MySQL - is a stored procedure call!!! Ug!
  6. It's black-fly season and they are biting viciously. I have bites all over me today. These flies bite and make you bleed, and come in swarms
  7. @paulvallee I take it that you are at that conference you told us about? Is it what you thought it would be (good or bad)?
  8. @brianaker LAMMP ;) It's in print now, at least.
  9. @seattlegaucho: Sphinx storage engine is pretty cool. You can use Sphinx's ordering, which is quite fast, and potentially save a filesort
  10. @sandikbarr You have a better memory than do I, so I think you'll be fine. Plus, Perl has caused me to forget about typing and memory mgmt.
  11. hooray - memc UDFs compiling with Drizzle. Amazing what happens when you focus on Perl for months, your C++ suffers.
  12. @sandikbarr Is this the guy: http://tinyurl.com/d9ah9y ?
  13. @sandikbarr Who's face is Jack-Nickleson-esque?
  14. mashraqi: hey, it was nice to see you last week! I need to get down to NYC. Likewise for ronaldbradford
  15. Strange to wake up and not have chapters to write. I wake up and can work on code projects... seems almost like something is missing.
  16. At Sun Santa Clara today
  17. http://capttofu.livejournal... Some thoughts I had...
  18. what would I do with the 'history' command? A needed tool for the forgetful mind.
  19. Wow, after 10 days, the power is back. Lights without the sound of a generator. No more gasoline all over my gloves. I'm truly appreciative.
  20. brianaker: agreed. Let's slaughter nothing except our vices.
