  1. Flat tire on the bike yesterday at mile 42 of a 55 mile ride - what a pain!
  2. Finally the great flood on the Des Plaines River Trail has receeded! I rode 41 miles today - no mud, no water, just trail!!!
  3. On the ride today I spotted a red-tailed hawk being driven away by two sparrows - they dive-bombed him w/o mercy & are 1/10th his size! Cool
  4. Slow weekend with all the flooding continuing unabated on the Des Plaines River. I've gone 457miles YTD toward a goal of 1,000miles in '09
  5. DPRT still underwater for long stretches - there was a school of minnows swimming on the trail before Rt 176!! Rode 31 miles today/433 YTD
  6. 30 miles today on the Des Plaines River Trail - lots of flooding, spent 1/2 the ride on roads bypassing flooded trails.
  7. No biking today, all the trails are flooded. Tomorrow, water & mud be damned - I'm going biking early for at least 50m!
  8. Plenty of wildflowers in bloom - lots of wild raspberries as well (I'm mentally marking those spots to pick berries in July!)
  9. Biked 50 miles on the Des Plaines River Trail today - 372miles since mid-April toward my goal of 1,000 miles this summer!
  10. a few washouts of the trail, especially south of the IL 137 underpass (the underpass itself is down to 1 lane so use caution).
  11. Des Plaines River Trail - conditions generally good today from Rt 22 to IL 120. 3" water on Rt 60 underpass, muddy in spots with...
  12. Walked 6 miles into Deerfield yesterday morning - got soaked in the rain but still picked up a couple dozen recycleables on the way home.
  13. DPRT - rode 40 miles with a little rain today, all underpasses from 22-137 open. Lost my bike pump somewhere on a bump in the trail!
  14. DPRT - Totally gross, ate a bug while biking - that'll teach me to keep my big mouth open.
  15. DPRT - rode 40 miles today - Lake-Cook Road to Independence Grove. Rt 60 flooded, I rode through even though water came up over pedals!
  16. DPRT - saw an eastern blue bird today (small and very bright blue - like the one in the Disney movie - "Mr. Bluebird's on my shoulder...)
  17. Des Plaines River Trail update: Rode 50 miles today to Gurnee, Rt 60 underpass flooded & unnavigable, Rt 120 3-4" water, Rt 132 2-3' water
  18. All bridge underpasses on the Des Plaines River Trail from Rt 22 north to Independence Grove are open - no water on the trail as of 5.25.09
  19. Rode Des Plaines River Trail 39Mi on Saturday, 37Mi on Monday with a break in-between to see the new Modern Wing at the Chicago Art Inst.
  20. Day 3 as president of DST - a Chicago software company and already a to-do list that will last till winter arrives again!!
