  1. @chagota The National Gallery was a revelation to me. Incredible collection. And the archives...that's a full-time beat, or could be.
  2. @SMontalbano I have no book fetish. But reading is more than informational upload. Kindle is about selling/renting, not reading.
  3. @SMontalbano Does Google Books guarantee your intellectual property won't be spread across web for free? No. Hence restrictions.
  4. @SMontalbano The lack of availability of massive numbers of great books in e-format is not my fault, nor is it worth $330.
  5. @lisanjutras Thank you for the alert. No idea how that happened, and no idea how to delete it.
  6. @geoperdis DId you choose that cover, George? Or was it someone else's pick?
  7. @Makurrah Another problem: I write to figure out what I think, so hard 4 me 2 believe a tweet is publishable. Vanity, agh.
  8. @Makurrah I want to use it more, but never seem to have time--too busy taking notes to actually tweet. Pathetically OS.
  9. RT @geoperdis: @BrownoftheGlobe Any time for freewheeling off the boat? George, are you kidding? Barely time to look.
  10. @susanorlean What is it that makes you think a story is great when you start the reporting, and then days later think, was I on drugs?
  11. @earnestgirl "My old friend the newspaper" would make a good memoir about...um, reading the newspaper.
  12. Back from a week on Globe Mediterranean Odyssey cruise. Fascinating, also perfect reality TV. Could call it...um, Man Overboard?
  13. @canice Macaroons today? Thou art brave. Instead, I hauled out my ten year old unused Cuisinart ice cream maker. Strawberry. Incredible.
  14. @SMontalbano Martini of sloe gin and bitters; Manhattan with green chartreuse. Sounds hideous, wasn't. His degree is in math.
  15. Recommended: go The Hungry Mother in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and ask the bartender to invent a cocktail to suit your mood. He will.
  16. Just watched most of Topkapi (Melina Mercouri). Astonishingly bad what happened to movies in 1964? The absolute nadir.
  17. @timfalconer http://tinyurl.com/mu4x5c Love writer's standing instruction to lawyer: "I'm going to get screwed, make sure they use lube."
  18. Reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog after Richard Price's Lush Life. Two great books in a row. Almost a new record.
  19. @ivortossell "Besides, being parsimonious with information is such an old-media mentality." That line is worth a long essay.
  20. @canice Jen. I meant Jen, Jan, she's obviously had one.
