  1. Add your comments about the proposed Brooks River Bridge, a part of the visitor access improvements project at http://bit.ly/f27Ga .
  2. Join us at the King Salmon VC for a preview of the Ken Burns film "National Parks: America's Best Idea" on Saturday 9/26 at 2:30.
  3. Happy Birthday, Katmai National Park and Preserve! Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation creating Katmai National Monument on Sep 24, 1918.
  4. This will be the last Brooks update until next spring. Several of our large, successful females should be back with new cubs. See you then!
  5. @pacman51 Yep, it is down for the season. It had a technical issue, but now we are packing up and leaving camp for the winter. Back in May.
  6. @natparkhopper Glad you had a great time. We had a great summer and are packing up and leaving camp now. See you next time!
  7. Still seeing lots of bears at the falls (9 yesterday) , which is surprising for Sep. Lots of fish were jumping, too. http://bit.ly/KOhmp
  8. Tonight at Brooks falls there were 14 bears, an almost unheard of number for Sep. It actually felt like July, though with no fish jumping.
  9. Today is the last day of visitor services at Brooks Camp. 6 bears were fishing at the base of Brooks Falls yesterday.
  10. Bear activity in the lower River is very dense right now-we often have 5-10 bears at at time near the bridge crossing Brooks River.
  11. Bear activity between the Falls and Riffles seems particularly high this September. Yesterday we saw between 5-10 single bears, plus cubs.
  12. A ranger just reported 8 bears in the river between the Riffles and Falls Platforms. It's a beautiful sunny fall day here at Brooks Camp.
  13. Bears 410, 402 + 3 yearlings, 608 and many more have been seen in the Lower River already today.
  14. We are now seeing 10+ bears at a time in the lower River, and sometimes 5 or more bears between Brooks Falls and the Riffles platform.
  15. As of Sunday, we have identified nearly 30 different bears using Brooks River so far this fall. This number should increase during Sept/Oct.
  16. Bear 480 (Otis) is being seen in his usual fall fishing spot on the far side of Brooks Falls nearly every day.
  17. Female bear #425 (Jan) just made an appearance in the lower river with her 3 spring cubs, but she quickly headed upriver.
  18. @pacman51 It may be. Funny thing is that we don't usually see it here because our internet is too slow. No way to troubleshoot 'til Tuesday
  19. Bears are great, but other wildlife can be seen, too. This short-tailed weasel was seen at the lower river last night. http://bit.ly/zDrHn
  20. Though most bears (5 or more at a time) are using the Lower Brooks River, we still see a few bears trying to fish the falls.
