  1. We saw whales twice today as we travelled between some of the Whitsunday Islands. (Don't know what species.)
  2. Great views of a Noisy Pitta rustling about in the rainforest mulch on the Whitsunday Walk, Airlee Beach.
  3. An Eastern Reef Egret (dark morph) sitting on rocks at the marina in Airlie Beach, ignoring the tourists decanting from the reef explorers.
  4. The only photos I took yesterday were of our new grandson. Maybe the 'natural' world will be moved to second place :)
  5. Great news - our first grandchild arrived safely this morning. We're about to go and meet him. Nana and Pa
  6. Bar-shouldered Doves and Peaceful Doves feeding under a tree in the park near the school. Not a sparrow in sight.
  7. We drove in to the caravan park at Airlie Beach to check the site prior to booking and there were four Bush Stone-curlews occupying it.
  8. We've reached our destination, Airlie Beach on Queensland's coast, and will stay for several weeks before heading south.
  9. Slight holdup. We've lost the electric plug on the caravan so no brake lights etc until we get the right part.
  10. The little towns of Anakie, Sapphire and Rubyvale are 'rocking' - it's gem festival time apparently. We'll fossick another time.
  11. I'm admiring the bottle trees planted in an avenue of honour in the main street in Roma. what a fantastic tree.
  12. We're at St George, camped beside a proper river, one with fallen timber in it, water too ;). Fish, yabbies, platypus etc need the shelter.
  13. An opal miner showed us how he uses wire held in his hands to indicate the presence of opal 70 feet below the surface. I remain sceptical.
  14. Black-shouldered Kites and Nankeen Kestrels are in no danger of extinction. We saw a pair of each every kilometre we travelled today.
  15. I'm trying to get warm! The kangaroos don't seem to mind the cold. A very heavy frost this morning so it should be a good day.
  16. I'm sitting in the caravan watching a family of White-winged Choughs squabbling on the ground outside.
  17. 'Malleefowl crossing the road' stated the sign by the the road through Goonoo NP. Is that a promise? I'd like to see that.
  18. Saw and photographed the tail ends of some babblers today. Can't add them to my trip list unfortunately, but they sounded great.
  19. Rivers have grand names like Mitchell, Murray and Darling, but creeks end up with names like Cow, Calf and Dead Bird Lead.
  20. Caravan parks seem to attract noisy minors and Noisy Miners.
